Triple Decker Reviews

Hi, movie fans, here are three reviews on films that I’ve recently seen, as usual, my reviews are very short with no spoilers. They are mini-reviews, I rate them with shoe icons five being the highest enjoy!

The Meg(PG13) starring Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Cliff Curtis. Thriller/Fantasy film

A giant creature once thought to be extinct attacks a deep-sea vessel at the bottom of the ocean trapping the crew onboard. A well-known diver (Jason Statham) is recruited to help rescue the survivors in a treacherous underwater battle for survival.

This film was surprisingly much better than I had anticipated, it had plenty of suspense and exciting scenes it was a good sci-fi movie.  I love to watch  Jason Statham films so that is why I gave this film a view and was happy that I did.

The Predator (R) starring Boyd Holbrook, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Thomas Jane, Trevante Rhodes. Thriller/Science fiction

When an alien crashes on the earth and a soldier discovers the crash site, his life becomes chaotic and dangerous.  Much to his surprise his only hope for survival and that of the human race may be in the hands of an interesting group of ex-soldiers and a biologist.

As a fan of all the previous “Predator” films, I had been anticipating this new film and was satisfied with it but not thoroughly enthralled. I guess I just had much higher expectations for it and for the direction that I thought the films were headed.

A Simple Favor (R) starring Blake Lively, Anna Kendrick, Henry Golding. Drama/Thriller

Emily (Anna Kendrick) a lonely,  single mom and vlogger, becomes fast friends with a beautiful, stylish mom  (Blake Lively) at her son’s school. When her friend goes missing, Emily begins a quest to solve the mystery behind her disappearance.

Although the duo of women actors in the film had rather interesting characters and played off each other very well in the film I felt that the mystery plot lacked in originality. But for what it lacked in originality it made up for with its somewhat dark sense of humor and dialogue.  An interesting film with a few plots and twists that amateur mystery solvers and others will enjoy.
