DIY (Do it yourself)- Jeans Project (Patches)

If you are anything like me, you probably have several pairs of jeans hanging in your closets and yet, if you search through the fashion magazines you can still find a new pair to obsess over. Well, that’s normal right? We always want what we don’t have.

Well, my latest obsession was a pair of jeans with embroidered roses.  So when I went searching for these trendy jeans, I couldn’t find a pair that looked good on me. It was either the color and/or placement of the flowers on the jeans that I didn’t like.  Then I thought to myself, why don’t I  try to make my own version of these jeans, using jeans that I already own.  All that I would need to do was to attach floral patches onto them. So that is how this project came to be.  It is also how I made my version of embroidered jeans and if you follow this DIY you can make a pair of your own.

First,  I searched for some patches to buy which, for me was the hardest part of this project. For,  I think I was just too picky about the type of rose patches that I wanted.  I finally ended up finding a top that had the kind of roses on it that I had been searching for and so, I purchased it for this project.

Secondly, I chose some jeans from my closet that I thought would work perfectly with the roses. (The next step for me was to cut out the roses from the top and to cut some fusible web of the same size to put underneath the  roses before I ironed them down, thus creating my own patches).  Note: If you use actual patches you can skip that step because most patches have adhesive on the back (follow instructions on the package of the patches if included).

Next, I put on the jeans and faced a mirror to help me decide the best placement of the roses and carefully pinned them on. The final step was to carefully remove the jeans and then iron on the patches (making sure to remove pins carefully before placing the hot iron on top of the patch). Do the same thing to all patches until you have attached each one.  I attached three roses onto this particular pair of jeans, but you can use however many you choose or whatever type of patches that you want. The beauty of this project is that you become the designer and can design them however you choose. You can purchase some patches at Micheals’ craft stores or at any other store that carries patches. (Note: The  patches only take a few seconds to adhere, so once you are finished  ironing them on, you’re done)!

This is an easy project to do, as long as you know how to use an iron and have all of the necessary supplies. Please note: if the patch does not adhere easily use a little fabric glue around the edges, then lightly pin the patch on jeans and lay them out on a flat surface to let dry for at least 24 hours.

So why not change the look of a pair of jeans from your closet by simply adding some patches of your own and creating a pair of stylish jeans. Looking fabulous doesn’t need to cost you a fortune!
